General Description:

This position provides management for various financial functions, including but not limited to: budgeting, reporting, and analysis. The Assistant AD for Finance leads the department's long-term financial planning, strategic initiatives, financial reporting, tax compliance, and communication regarding finances.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Finance:
  • Coordinates department's budget development process, prepares department's consolidated budget plan, monitors and forecasts operating performance and results
  • Completes department's financial reporting obligations including year-end close process, NCAA/EADA reporting requirements, and other reporting needs
  • Manages arena event financials and tracks event by event profitability
  • Assists with Arena special event settlement process
  • Coordinates fiscal audits including general communications and auditor fieldwork
  • Prepares financial analyses including standard monthly financial analytics, contract negotiation models, and various ad hoc management requests
  • Department Salary File and Salary Budget Development, Reconciliation, and Entry
  • Budget Manager/liaison for all sports (Operations, Recruiting, Scholarships, and Post Season)
  • Budget Development for Sport Budgets and monthly/periodic reporting, ledger approval
  • Financial Forecasting assistance for Sport and administrative budgets
  • Manage the budget development process with supervisors, coaches, and directors of operations to develop budgets for each team and department for the athletics department (zero-based budgeting)
  • Individually meet with supervisors, coaches, and directors of operations to discuss budget needs and ensure the budget process and collaborative and efficient; Organize individually budgets into an overall department budget to ensure balanced budgets are met
  • Responsible for financial policy development, tax compliance, and long-range financial planning
  • Ensures proper sales and amusement tax calculations and associated tax remittance
  • Works directly with campus and system partners to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax law
Management
  • Develops goals and objectives for financial operations
  • Delegates appropriate financial tasks to direct report to assist in professional development
  • Provides cost containment/reduction and process improvement recommendations to management in order to enhance operating efficiencies and results
  • Conducts employee performance evaluations for one (1) direct report
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Represents department as an active member on SEC business officer group and other national associations (e.g. CABMA)
  • Updates management of any pending issues, areas of concern, and/or negligent matters
  • Manage Supplemental, additional, recurring and non-recurring pay types
  • Assists management on special projects as assigned

Qualifications :

Required Qualifications:



Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration is required. Master’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration is preferred.



Experience:

Five (5) years of accounting or business-related experience or three (3) years of accounting or business-related experience and Master's Degree in related field of study.



Skills:
  • Knowledge of budgeting, finance, and accounting principles (required).
  • Ability to interpret and apply various fiscal policies and procedures (required).
  • Ability to effectively manage a functional unit with multiple staff (required).
  • Skilled in prioritizing work assignments and responsibilities (required).
  • Ability to possess and balance technical and non-technical (i.e. soft/communicative) skills (required).
  • Skilled in analytics and Microsoft Excel spreadsheet work (required).
  • Knowledge of intercollegiate athletics rules and regulations, industry trends, and typical practices (preferred).
  • Ability to communicate complex fiscal matters including financial statements, transactions, etc. (preferred).
  • Ability to proactively identify and make process improvements (preferred).
