Job Description
The Community Innovation and Action Center (CIAC) at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL), conducts applied research, builds skills, and convenes across a variety of sectors and projects in the St. Louis Region and State of Missouri. CIAC is dedicated to strengthening coordination and collaboration across all sectors towards the goal of improving outcomes for the St. Louis community. CIAC is also home to the St. Louis Regional Data Alliance (RDA), a collaborative effort dedicated to building shared data infrastructure where this position will spend a significant amount of time.
The Community Data Analyst will work to expand, support, and execute data and evaluation projects for CIAC and the RDA. The role will be primarily responsible for collecting, cleaning, analyzing, and visualizing data as well as communicating complex findings to diverse audiences. It will work collaboratively with clients, community partners, faculty, and staff to support systems change, learning, and deep inquiry across a range of policy topics. The Community Data Analyst will make substantial contributions to CIAC's growing, high-quality data and research portfolio that supports strong, equitable, and thriving communities. This includes supporting a statewide opioid treatment dashboard for the Missouri Institute for Mental Health, expanding the St. Louis Regional Data Exchange, supporting a vacancy strategy and dashboard for the City of St. Louis, supporting fiscal mapping efforts with the Children's Funding Project, other applied data and applied research projects.
Responsibilities for the position include:
- Contribute to the design, management, and execution of data and research projects
- Ability to use a range of data and research methodologies for community-based projects
- Collect, clean, code, manage, analyze, and visualize data
- Conduct literature reviews and gather background information
- Draft and edit reports, dashboards, powerpoints, and other deliverables
- Deeply engage clients, community members, and other stakeholders in the research process from start to finish
- Execute on short-term, fast-turnaround requests
- Identify meaningful research opportunities and contribute to the development of related materials and submissions
- Other duties and responsibilities as projects emerge
Shift
40 hours/week
Salary
Pay commensurate with education and experience.
Hiring Range: $50,367 to $55,000 Annually
Grade: GGS-010
University Title: Associate Data Analyst
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience is necessary
Preferred Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree, preferably in sociology, public policy, political science, social work, urban planning, or a related field.
- Work experience in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, preferably including demonstrable skills with quantitative and qualitative research, evaluation, and/or data analysis.
- Experience with R, SPSS, SAS, Tableau, SAS, or other software applications for data analysis and visualization
- Some knowledge of Python helpful but not required
- Strong time and project management skills
- Ability to problem solve quickly and creatively
- Passion for CIAC's mission and work
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as a team
- Curiosity, integrity, and flexibility
- Ability to think conceptually and practically
- Highly detail-oriented and organized
