Position overview
Position title: Biomolecular Engineering Assistant Project Scientist (Pourmand Lab)
Salary range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. A reasonable estimate for this position is $90,500 - $95,100.

Percent time: Full-time (100%)

Anticipated start: As soon as possible after initial review of the applications.

Position duration: Initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of reappointment. Should the hiring unit propose reappointment; a review to assess performance will be conducted. Reappointment is also contingent upon the availability of funding.

Position Description


The Pourmand Research lab in the Department of Biomolecular Engineering seeks qualified candidates for the role of an assistant project scientist who will directly oversee the development of new sensing technologies for nanopipette application. Research activities include, but are not restricted to the development of novel electrochemical sensors, fabrication and functionalization of nanopipettes, intracellular sampling and target analyte measurement, cell culture and data analysis. Additionally, the assistant project scientist will lead efforts to develop new nanopipette-based approaches for intracellular multianalyte quantification and should make significant contributions to research projects utilizing nanopipettes.

The position will require the scientist to demonstrate strong organizational, technical, and interpersonal skills. The incumbent will be expected to present research results at relevant workshops and conferences, assist with applications for grant proposals, and co-author results in peer-reviewed journals. Applicants with the following qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply: expertise in nanopipettes and electrochemical sensors with a basic understanding in electronics.

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
  • A PhD (or equivalent foreign degree) in biomolecular engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with fabrication and functionalization of nanopipettes and development of electrochemical sensors.
