Job Summary
The Shared Services Controller reports to both the Vice-President for Finance of the university it is supporting and the System Office Chief Financial Officer. This position is responsible for the supervision, direction and development of the Accounting Office staff at their assigned university customer(s) and is the primary person responsible for the accuracy, timeliness and reporting of daily activities for that university customer(s).
While the Shared Services Controller is primarily a remote-first position with regard to work location, frequent travel to their assigned university customer(s) campuses may be required, along with the potential for infrequent travel to the System Office worksite in Harrisburg. For these reasons, candidates must reside in Pennsylvania. Estimated travel to university sites is 20 percent.
The Shared Services Controller is responsible for developing policies, procedures and systems that foster the responsible stewardship of university resources, sound accounting practices, strong internal controls, and efficient user-friendly business practices. This includes ensuring conformance with policies, procedures, laws and regulations such as GAAP, GASB, FASB, IRS, State System Board of Governor policies and procedure/standards, and university policies, monitoring of general ledger accounts, fund balances and banking activities.
Ensures the efficient and effective use of all financial/ERP systems to support evolving accounting and reporting needs. Lead and participate in campus-wide initiatives that support the development and implementation of effective and efficient business processes.
This role provides direct supervisory oversight to these university-based departments: Accounting, Accounts Payable, and Grant Accounting . External Audits: Responsible for the timely scheduling, and completion of the annual Financial Statement audit, NCAA Agreed-Upon Procedures audit, the federal Uniform Grants Guidance audit, state-mandated audits, and any other customary or special audits that may be required.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- Ten years of increasingly responsible, relevant professional experience and management in Accounting/Finance
- Effective leader and manager with demonstrated ability to mentor subordinates.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of financial and accounting principles and practices
- Excellent technology skills including advanced Excel capabilities and proficiency in complex accounting systems
- Experience in Governmental Fund Accounting and the SAP Financial Accounting system, or another complex ERP system, is highly preferred
- Experience in Higher Education or similar industry
- Certified Public Accountant
- Previous supervisory responsibilities
- Master's degree in business administration or related field
