Chief of Police - City of Lexington
The vibrant and growing community of Lexington, Illinois (pop.2068) seeks a proven, innovative professional to serve as Chief of Police.
Under the guidance of the mayor, and an elected city council, the Chief leads the Lexington Police Department and its staff in fulfilling the Department's mission. The Chief is responsible for ensuring that the Lexington Police Department continually strives for excellence in the performance of its duties through education, training, and collaboration with its citizens.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in policing. The ideal candidate will have experience in community policing and police management in a small community to include Collaborative problem solving via a partnership between the police and the community • The practice of prioritizing de-escalation during encounters with the public • Supporting victims of crimes.
In addition the new Chief of Police will have: Completion of the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board Certification • Proven ability to manage an operation while working collaboratively with other City departments • The ability to partner with other police agencies and act as a role model for those in law enforcement. • Flexibility and the ability to work under pressure or tight deadlines • Experience collaborating with councils and citizens • The ability to foresee and plan for emerging trends and directions in technology, safety, and regulatory requirements
